This kit will
enable the instructor and students to explore the various
types of fuel cells such as air breathing PEM (Proton
Exchange Membrane), pressurized PEM and DMFC (Direct Methanol
Fuel Cells).
The data acquired
through the use of the "plug & play" sensors
and data logging will enable the students to discover
the various parameters and their relationships and how
they affect the performance of a fuel cell.
Once the students are familiar with the basic functioning
of the fuel cell they can apply this knowledge to extend
their research into various topics affecting the efficiency
of the fuel cell such as:
· Gas diffusion to the MEA (Membrane Electrode
Assembly)
· Improving contact between electrolyte, gases
and catalyst
· Gas cross-over through the MEA
· Electrical conductivity through the MEA and plates
· Catalyst particle size effects
· Catalyst materials
· Water management inside the fuel cell
· And others, limited only by their imagination!
